Owner/Artist
At a very early age, Paul was honing his natural artistic talents by creating crayon murals, no doubt earning less than rave reviews from Mom and Dad. When he was 18, Paul moved to California and continued his studies, which ranged from ceramics, photography, engraving, printmaking, woodblocks, serigraphy, pen & inks, pastels, oils, acrylics, watercolors, scratchboards, gouache, and his medium of preference, colored pencils. His work has been published in “The Best of Colored Pencil Drawings” in 1995 and 1996.
Travel became another of Paul's passions. As a young boy, he got to know the Midwest, then on to Europe with his parents. He's visited the Mayan ruins of the Yucatan Peninsula, traced the footsteps of William Wallace from 13th-century Scotland and trekked to Western Java's remote villages. Paul's been to all but four of the United States, including Alaska, a trip which piqued his interest in woodcarving. Today, Paul's carving projects include totem poles, Balinese temple bas reliefs, teak stair railings, kids’ puzzles, Tiki poles, a cradle for his daughter, even a personalized sake cup.
In addition to his artistic accomplishments, Paul is highly accomplished in the martial arts. Training in the Filipino martial art of Escrima, he graduated from the Bahala Na system in 1993 and subsequently received his instructorship from Grand Master Leo Giron. He put his artistic talents to use framing black belt certificates, designing a shadow box for a rattan training stick with photos and certificates, and creating a mixed media collage/illustration of a boy’s journey through the martial arts. Paul also rendered the cover and inside illustrations for Grand Master Emeritus Giron’s book, “Memories Ride the Ebb Tide,” along with illustrations for “Edged & Impact Weapons – Lethality & Legality” co-authored by Steve Tarani and Damon Fay.
